The first thing you may notice about the top 20 UK online poker players is there are several names who are not British. In fact, at least eight of them are foreign nationals who now call the UK home. The majority of those players moved to these shores to continue their online careers, having previously lived in countries where online poker is either unavailable, or heavily regulated.

For example, currently occupying fifth place is Oscar “MendaLerenda” Serradell of Spain, but who resides in Bristol. He’s joined in the UK top 20 by fellow countrymen Vicent “vicenfish” Delgado, Joel “CrackdeI29” Jordana, Lucas “Show3rs4u” Blanco, and Sergio “trujustrus” Cabrera.

Current UK number one, Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford also happens to be ranked second in the world for online poker tournaments. Should he secure top spot, he’ll join the likes of Chris Moorman, Christopher Brammer, and Patrick Leonard as British players who have been ranked number one in the world.

There are ten different poker hands in total, starting with the highest-ranking Royal Flush to the single high card. Take a look at our guide to poker hand rankings and which starting hands are the strongest to get to grips with the game, or check out our poker probability cheat sheet.

The Global Poker Index is the go-to page for all poker rankings, and it is here that you find Stephen Chidwick occupying first place, albeit by the narrowest of margins from Jack Salter. Chidwick is regarded as one of the best all-round poker players in the world, not only the UK, thanks to his ability to play almost all poker variants, and until recently, Chidwick was the only UK player to reside in the top 10 in the worldwide GPI rankings.

Both the online poker rankings for the United Kingdom and Ireland, provided by PocketFives.com, remained almost the same but there is still plenty to shout about with several big prizes won.

Scott “Aggro Santos” Margereson finished third in a $530 Bounty Builder for more than $25,000 while Chris “Moorman1” Moorman won a $30,000 guaranteed six-max tournament at WSOP.com for a $13,309 haul. Moorman has slipped down the standings recently but is still up there with the biggest winners of all-time.

At the top of the rankings, Patrick “pleno1” Leonard still leads and will do for the foreseeable future as he holds a commanding lead of more than 1,600 points. Leonard scooped several four-figure prizes last week, including one for $6,442 when he finished fourth in a $215 Bounty Hunter at partypoker. Leonard also netted almost $79,000 in the High Roller Gladiator, but this came too late to be included in this week’s tally.

Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford helped himself to more than $5,500 with a third-place finish in a $1,050 Daily Cooldown PKO at PokerStars, with “girafganger7” helping himself to $5,158 by finishing third in the $1,050 Sunday Warm-Up.

The player known as “dawhiteninja” took down the Hot $22 for $4,140 and Paul “Fold Machiii” Dando padded his bankroll with more than $7,500 by finishing third in the PokerStars $530 Bounty Builder.

Two players secured five-figure prizes. Serial crusher Michael “mczhang” Zhang won $27,990 for his runner-up finish in the $2,100 Sunday High Roller at PokerStars, while Damien “DamienWain” Wain won the Super Tuesday and netted $23,504.

Kamal “AceOfShamrocks” Singh Climbs Five Places

Several members of the Irish online poker tournament community got their hands on large scores during the past week, including Kamal “AceOfShamrocks” Singh whose impressive result saw him soar five places.

Singh won the $109 Sunday Kickoff at PokerStars for a cool $9,679. It was a result that saw Singh’s lifetime online winnings draw ever closer to $1.3 million.

Sean “monkeybudgie” Prendiville had a series of deep runs but couldn’t quite get over the line. His largest score weighed in at $3,502, his reward for a 10th place finish in the PokerStars $1,050 Sunday Warm-Up. The week previously, Prendiville banked $31,854 for winning the same tournament.

Another winner was Johnathen “johnymcc” McCullagh who took down the Big $11 for $3,230 while Aidan “aidohynes” Hynes went on something of a heater to win two PokerStars events, finish second twice and bag a third-place finish.
